If you want to keep the updates (don't put them in /dev/null -- that's
the same as getting rid of them), and if you have /home on a separtate
partition, then I would make a subdirectory off /home and store them
there.  That way, god forbid, if you have to do a complete reinstall you
won't have to lose (and hence re-download) the updates.

But for security and other reasons one should periodically check the
errata for newer updates.
