Ok,
I'm dialed into the SCO Xenix V Host now, the command issued within the
script is:
"tar -cv /usr/bin /appl/fp/menus/mrm2* /appl/filepro/mrm2* /mrm2.scripts"
This backs up all of the necessary database files and scripts.
The tar executable does not list a version, but it shows:
"-rwx--x--x 1 bin bin 80662 Nov 12 1990 tar"
Apparently it does not write information to the disk to indicate to the
newer GNU tar that there is a continuation of the file on the next extent.
Sincerely,
Robert Jones

I think the easiest thing is to generate the full message including headers
and Message-ID. This way you know what it is before you start. I don't
remember which option you need to pass to sendmail for it to except headers
to, but the man page should help. Don't forget to make sure the Message-ID
is unique (really unique) as this is a prerequisite for e-mail, and also
make sure you form it of the correct characters.
