Error Compiling TACACS+ on RH5.1 - HELP!

I have been trying to compile TACACS+ 2.1 on a RedHat 5.1 machine with no
luck.
Initially I received loadsa compile errors but have managed (by
incorporating missing #includes) to wittle this down to just one error:
/tmp/cca072971.o: In function `main':
/usr/src/tac_plus.2.1/generate_passwd.c:71: undefined reference to `crypt'
make: *** [generate_passwd] Error 1
I cannot cure the unresolved reference to crypt, yet it seems to exist in
the #includes.
Unfortunately I am no C programmer (as you can probably tell) but I have
had problems with crypt before when compiling other programs, it strikes me
that something has changed from RH4.2 to RH5.1 in this area but I don't
know what.
If anyone can throw some light on this problem or supply me with a TACACS+
RPM (dreamer) then I would be most grateful.
BTW: Please don't suggest I use RADIUS as I really need TACACS+
