This actually depends on the shell being used.  Most linux
users probably use bash so tab is the right answer.
Try pressing the tab key twice when the string you enter
is not unique.

c shell on linux (tcsh-6.07 on rhl 5.1) also uses tab

In the korn and POSIX shells press esc key twice.

Command line editting varies with the shell and setting of shell options.
