Well, and I (like many other people) have an Unix based ISP that doesn't
give me a shell account (PPP only, nothing else supported, nothing but
WinXX/Mac supported on client side - and no, there is not much choice when it
comes to ISPs in this country, especially not in the range of a local call
outside Dublin), so there... :-}
Anyway - there are quite a few people out there who do not have the option
of filtering on ISP side, that's simply a fact. If - in addition to that -
they also have to pay for their local phone calls by time units (as people in
most European countries do), extra KBs can get expensive. SPAM does add to
that problem, of course.
Besides, even *if* the ISP gives me the possibility to filter at the
ISP's side, it means that he will need more resources for dealing with my
mail and that of other users, which is not exactly a good idea, either. In
my opinion, the whole "why-don't-you-just-filter-it" approach to either spam
or bloated emails is rather selfish on part of the offenders (i.e. spammers,
mail-bloaters (that one goes rather to the companies which invent that
crap... :-( )).
