If you want to stay with the rpm format, I'd say your best bet is to learn
how to build rpms yourself. Then, you could download the source rpm, add
your extras and build a new rpm.
Another option could be (depending on the software you want to install) to
make an "extra rpm", which installs the extra parts after you installed the
original rpm. Obviously, this is only possible, if the extras can be added
on after compile time.
To learn more about building rpms, I'd recommend "Maximum RPM", the rpm
documentation available at http://www.rpm.org.
