Check out /etc/termcap

Your terminal is probably "linux";    "set | grep term"

bl=^G  says bell = the beep character.  I suppose you could remove it.

Also, there's a little blurb in the docs in the beginning about -vb
standing for Visual Bell.  I didn't read anymore.  That should be enough
to get you started.
