bind or named logging

This has been asked before, and no one has given an answer.
I am interested in having BIND ( ver 4 and/or 8 ) not send
its logging to /var/log/messages where it clutters everything.
Seems to me this might need to be done in the source for bind,
and then having bind recompiled and made into an RPM. I am not
an expert at this.... any ideas or hints from the gurus?
