In my opinion, "propper" trimming of quotes involves the following steps:
- delete *all* quoted signature lines
- delete greetings and closings, at least if your mailer adds something
along the lines of "XXX writes:" (like e.g. mutt)
- delete all paragraphs/lines that are not related to the
question/problem/what-ever you're answering to.
Most annoying (for me) are mails where the sender writes a few lines and
leaves the whole original message including headers/footers/sigs before or
after his/her own lines, as this does not add to context and just wastes
bandwidth.
