I have noticed a growing number of attempted break-ins on our firewall
since last year. I just have a few questions and comments:
1) Is everybody else noticing this? This gets very frustrating that
these people don't have anything else better to do...
2) I'm running a basic packet filtering system and IP_Masq. How safe
am I gonna be, as long as I stay up on the errata and CERT? I've had
attempts aimed at NFS, IMAP, Apache, Samba and many others. I don't
even have most of the stuff on the box, which makes me laugh watching
these people try to hack in that way.
3) Our poor Indy sure doesn't handle the attacks as well as our RH box!
4) I bought a book called Practical Unix and Internet Security
(O'Reilly & Associates; ISBN: 1565921488). It's pretty good, what do
you read?
