This a pretty basic question that I hope someone can answer.
I have several users who must run pretty big (CPU intensive, lengthy)
Matlab jobs on a RH5.1 box. In order to eliminate the need to have open
console or telnet sessions while one or more of these jobs is running,
we've figured out (actually got the info off the Matlab site) how to run
these jobs in the background so that the user can logout and then login
later to examine the output.
The problem is that we can't seem to get these background jobs to show up
in any output from either the 'ps' or 'jobs' command. According to the man
pages and other folks we've talked to, we should be able to do this. I'm
not sure whether or not this is a case of the man pages not "keeping up"
with the command (seems like a common complaint) or whether we've just
overlooked something.
Any enlightenment appreciated.
Rick.
