This really is basic stuff for Linux.
You should review the Serial-HOWTO and the PPP-HOWTO. I've found that
mgetty makes it easy to setup a dialup server. The Control Panel in Red Hat
makes it easy to configure a client machine to dial into the server.
The Red Hat distribution on CDROM includes all the documentation and
software you need to setup a dialup PPP server. FTP client and server
software is standard in all distributions.
Once the connection is made, using FTP to move files is trivial.
If you just need to move files or do system admin stuff and you have
trouble with the PPP connection, a plain serial connection can be used to
move files using rz/sz. The transfer rate is good and the whole process is
simpler since you have to establish a serial connection anyway if you
intend to use PPP.
