I would ask that APC make available WITHOUT a nondisclosure agreement the
protocol, basic command set, required and or requested documentation, etc.
such that OPEN SOURCE and GPL'ED drivers can be independently written,
tweaked, and supported easily. this with the gracious help and blessing
of APC and without the need for tenious reverse engineering of hardware,
software, and protocol that has been necessary to employ to even get a
half working driver that functions with the 'smart' series. the other
item importaint to me in the ups support area is service documentation and
schematics. in all the above areas BEST Power has provided a model for
the rest of the industry to follow. I would hope APC could do the same.
I would be happy to discuss the above items and related issues by phone.

Hopefully through our discussions and possibly discussions with other
members of the linux community the issues raised in this discussion can
find some resolution.
