First I want to say how totally impressed I am with the RedHat 4.0 release,
yeah it has its bugs and quirks, but I must say that I am very happy with
the system that I have now installed. Its a great system with alot of potential.
But I see a few problems...
The graphical tools are not up to date with the actual installation - I don't
think one can set the NIS domainname from a graphical tool - there are a number
of other things too. Documentation is great for installation but documentation
for advanced configuration is rather poor.
The one thing which I want to critique though is the actual installation program
which is a great tool but needs a few refinements (IMHO). A few points
- It should be easy to go back to a previous dialog (ie Windows
Wizard style)
- What happened to the list of things to do (Rembrandt had this)
- When installing LILO the option to edit the generated lilo.conf file
should be enabled - I had trouble since my machine needed a
"LINEAR" line in that file which Redhat install did not put in.
I may come up with more, but first - congratulations on a job well done! I'm
very
happy with my purchase!
