Hm... maybe so.  You probably already did this but could you do a "fdisk -l" 
and post the results?  My only EIDE/LBA machine is DOS/Windoze only but I 
have a vague memory that the old "boot partition completely within the first 
1023 cylinders" applies even to LBA drives.  I've never been real clear when 
BIOS is out of the picture and how EIDE controllers and LBA-capable BIOS 
fits in.
