I have Stealth 3240XL video vram as well. I didn't have this problem, but
MetroX won't run in 32 bit color for me. XF86 is fine in 32 bit. Metro
tells me in /var/log/Xerrors that I don't have enough memory to run either
640x480 or 800x600, but I have enough to run both these resolutions in all
other OS's and in XF86 :)
You may want to try XF86 instead.
