I can add another two to the list:
1.Try to go back and forth from runlevel 3 to 2 and than back to 3 again.
The script which starts the NFS daemons executes and from the message on your
screen you get the impression that both RPC.NFSD and RPC.MOUNTD are started,
but they are not.
Look at ps -aux
2. Changing from single user to runlevel 3 renders the login console useless.
Enter f.i. displays ^M etc

Subject: Syslogd && telinit problem
I have asked about this twice, with no response, so I'm probably the only
one with this problem. But would some kind person please try this and let
me know?
First, make sure syslogd is running, as it most surely is.
Next, as root try to go single user: 'telinit -s'
Tell me if it works, 'telinit 3' back to runevel 3, for instance.
If it hangs for you too, you should be able to CTRL-C back to runlevel 3.
If this is greek to you, do not try it. As a general rule, people who
ask you to run things as root are not necessarily your friend. :)
See 'man init'.
TIA,
Kyle Ferrio
