Sendmail expects your hostname to be qualified (i.e. have a .something
after it), and if it isn't it 'sleeps' for a minute on the assumption that
the system is still booting up and networking addresses may not be complete
yet. This may be your problem. Try putting an alias for your hostname in
/etc/hosts that is qualified, something like:
127.0.0.1 localhost foobar foobar.org
BTW, it seems that a new install of RedHat 4.0 will have this problem by
default (or at least this was the case on a new install I saw recently). Is
this so, and if so is it something RedHat is going to fix in the future?
It's really not that easy a bug for a new user to track down (I speak from
experience ;-) ), and a one-minute-plus bootup time is not the best of
introductions to Linux.
