I'm still ironing out the wrinkles in Colgate.
I just installed all the rpms (except the ping kernel fix) from the ftp site.
Now grep is messed up!

/usr/bin/grep ( as well as egrep and fgrep ) are now directories!

ls -l /usr/bin/grep gives

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 254520 Aug 16 1995 dvipsk.dvi
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 227740 Aug 16 1995 kpathsea.dvi
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 734156 Mar 11 1996 texinfo.dvi

egrep and fgrep (now directories) contain the same files.

rpm -V grep confirms this by complaining that the greps have the wrong mode.

My filesystem fsck is A-OK.

What is going on!?!
