Where is /usr/sbin/in.identd ?

Hello,
I'm running RH4.0 on a stand-alone machine, although I dial up via
SLIP from time to time. I've been noticing a lot of messages of the
form
Nov 27 17:33:11 rezkbox inetd[407]: execv /usr/sbin/in.identd: No such
file or directory
showing up in /var/log/messages . Indeed, there is no such file on my
machine. It seems to be referenced by the following line in
/etc/inetd.conf:
# Authentication
#
auth stream tcp nowait nobody /usr/sbin/in.identd
in.identd -l -e -o
#
So, what does in.identd *do* exactly ? Do I need it? Can I get along
fine without it? Should I comment out this line in inetd.conf ?
