Hi,

I am still trying to resolve my lilo problems after my 4.0
upgrade. I tried the suggestions I was given yesterday, but those did
not work. I think I have tracked down the lilo problem to a disk
geometry error. However, before I trash my Linux SCSI disk, run fdisk
again and start with a clean Linux 4.0 install instead of an upgrade, I
was hoping someone could give me confirmation that my assumptions are
correct.

I downloaded the lilo-0.19-1.i386.rpm update from RedHat and tried
to install it, but got a message saying that package was already
installed. So I did:

# rpm -e lilo-0.19-1
# rpm -Uvh *.rpm
lilo ###############################################################
Device 0x0800: Invalid partition table, 1st entry
  3D address: 1/1/0 (32
  Linear Address: 32/1/0 (63
execution of script failed

error: lilo-0.19-1.i386.rpm cannot be installed

I then did an fdisk and got messages that my disk geometry is all wrong,
and that my 1st partition table sectors, which is my Win95 disk, are
also all wrong. Could this be caused by my swapping my Adaptec 2940
card with the Adaptec 1542 SCSI card this past weekend? Why were my
previous partition tables and lilo acceptable to RedHat 3.03 but not for
4.0? Is a clean 4.0 install along with a new fdisk the way to go, or
will I still get lilo mbr errors on my Win95 /dev/sda1 boot disk? Or do
I need to format both my SCSI disks since they were originally formatted
with an Adaptec 2940 PCI SCSI card and I am now using an Adaptec 1542
ISA SCSI card?

Thanks for any suggestions that can be recommended. Regards, Niel
