A few weeks ago, I reported problems to this list installing RH 4.0 on a
system with an Adaptec 1542 controlle, /boot on a small IDE drive, and /
on /dev/sda1.
My interim fix was to compile a monolithic kernel with 1542 support built-in.
I still had problems at boot; the kernel reported a crc error and would
not run fsck automatically against the scsi file system. Resetting
etrmination on the SCSI controller seemed to fix the crc error but not
the fsck error.
I fixed it earlier today by downloading the kernel source for 2.0.26,
installing it as per instructions, and making a new kernel (monolithic)
plus a few modules for odds and ends I use (like ip aliasing). Booting
now works fine.
The iBCS module doesn't load, but I don't need it now so that's no big deal.
One question, though - make xmenuconfig did not work, I saw an error
regarding making a "button". Make menuconfig works fine.
