This morning when I powered up my machine I wasn't able to log in as
root. I logged in as a regular user and was able to su to root fine so
the password was correct. I went through this game for a while then went
on with my business. When I went to shutdown my machine about 10min.
later I figured I would give it a try and low and behold it worked. Does
anyone have any thoughts on why this would occur. I didn't touch
anything that I would think could make a difference.

Also, when I log in as root, all the simlinks show up as the obnoxious
flashing red background text. However, they are not orphaned. When I
log in as a user everything is fine.

thanks,

jason
