Trying dip gives "hostname lookup failure"

After upgrading my RH3, and installing RH4 I cannot make a dip-connec-
tion to my provider anymore. Trying to execute dip results in the mes-
sage "hostname lookup failure". I'd think my setup is about the same
as under RH3, whith /etc/HOSTNAME and /etc/sysconfig/network being about
identical. Anyone an idea what other reason might be the cause?
