DOOM isn't a brilliant test of your sound system, IMHO. It's too difficult to
figure out what it's doing.
1. cat /dev/sndstat
-- does it look right? Are the numbers right?
2. Install sox or some other audio app and try sending an .au file
to the sound card:-
cat some-audio-file >/dev/audio
