You can avoid the hang by specifying linux single at the boot prompt. You
should be able to fix the problem by creating the file /etc/sysconfig/mouse.
The contents of this file should be a single line in the form
MOUSETYPE=<type> , where <type> is the gpm identifier for your mouse (eg.
MOUSETYPE=logi).
