I am not aware of such problem. Of course, I was using scilab before
I installed RedHat. I just moved the installation over to /usr/local.
I think you may be better off compiling/installing it yourself, using
g77 rather than f2c. I have experienced inconsistencies in f2c & gcc
that go away with g77.
