FVWM can not load library

I've managed to break fvwm.
Here are the symptoms:
(--) Mach32: Using 16 planes of 960x255 at (0,768) aligned 8 as font
cache
fvwm: can't load library 'libXpm.so.4'
waiting for X server to shut down
[root@srv /root]# cd /usr/i486-linuxaout/lib/
[root@srv lib]# ls -al libXpm*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Nov 24 09:01 libXpm.so.4 ->
libXpm.so.4.2
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 62468 Feb 25 1996 libXpm.so.4.2
[root@srv lib]# ldconfig -v|grep libXpm
libXpm.so.4 => libXpm.so.4.2
[root@srv lib]# exit
Script done on Sun Nov 24 09:16:13 1996
I've tried reloading fvwm, running ldconfig, but neither
solved the problem.
Could someone please lend me a hand?
