Okay, here's a question for all you linux people out there.
This has been going on for a while for me, and I'm hoping someone out there
will know how to tune the kernel, fix whatever, etc.
As near as I can tell, when you have a linux machine that is serving as
the gateway to a local area network, and a couple of machines off of that
network, the gateway preempts network traffic for itself. Unfortunately
the linux machine cannot in this instance be a dedicated gateway, it is
also a host machine. I need to patch the kernel, or fix this in some
other way because when I browse or do various things like FTP, all other
machines on the lan get starved for outgoing bandwidth.
If anyone can help (or if my problem is unclear :) please let me know,
either in private mail or along the list. I suspect I'm not the only
person who would like the answer to this.
N.B. I am running 2.0.25 kernel, and will probably be running 2.0.26 as
soon as I look over it's changes and see what's new. (if all the changes
to the kernel are in systems I don't use (like scsi) then I ignore the patch
and glob it with the next patch I need :)
