At the pine Main menu, select S(etup, C(onfigure, then look for
"character set" and set the value to "iso-8859-1"
There is a FAQ somewhere on the ISO 8859-x character sets, if you're
interested. In general, iso-8859-1 is probably fine for you to use all
the time, because it covers almost all the characters used by West
European languages, such as Albanian, Catalan, Danish, Dutch, English,
Faeroese, Finnish, French, German, Galician, Irish, Icelandic, Italian,
Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish.
