Mouse trouble: abuse & sdoom

Well, I finally got around to updating my a.out svgalib to 1.2.10
so my Trio64 card won't choke so much.
Trouble is, I can't run abuse.console or sdoom.
Abuse loads to the "pick the darkest color" screen, but I can't
move the mouse cursor. I've tried all MOUSE_TYPE settings.
Doom starts loading and then quits with "mouse_init() failed".
Mouse is a newer Logitech MouseMan that's working just great in X
and with gpm. Any ideas?
