Hmmm... I have seen infinite make loops occur when compiling XFree86,
yes; one of the more common causes is that there's a directory missing
somewhere. The make process attempts to traverse down into the directory,
fails, then steps back up even though it didn't descend in the first
place. Having not tried it from the RPMs, I can't go into details on
what might be wrong, but just suggest you look over the output of the make
log to see if there was a particular error that repeated each time it
increased the depth number.
