I am trying to set up a micro network at home with two machines.
Both machines have CNet cards that are NE2000 compatible. The old
machine has Red Hat 3.0.3 (kernel 1.2.13) and the new one has
Red Hat 4.0 (kernel 2.0.18). The old one will recognize the card
but the new one won't. Since the new one is supposed to automatically
loadable modules, I don't see how one would recompile (it shouldn't
be necessary) to include the card. Anyway, the autoprobe doesn't
show the card either. When in DOS, the set up program for the card
shows the card to be working, with the same settings as in the old
machine. I have tried to force recognitions of the card through
lilo during bootup, but that doesn't seem to work. Here is the
lilo.conf file that I used to try to force recognition:

boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=100
other=/dev/hda1
        label=dos
        table=/dev/hda
image=/boot/vmlinuz
        append="ether=11,0x340,0,0,eth0"
        label=linux
        root=/dev/hdb5
        read-only
