sudo is your answer, John... You can specify user privileges under sudo down to the nth detail... And it's the best way to proteect yourself from yourself if you are the superuser anyway. Here, we require all our system admins to use sudo to access root commands. Typing su subjects the user to the loss of a finger... #8^)
sudo is available at all the RedHat mirors in rpm format.
