xdm does -not- log in wtmp. (I don't know why)

It cna be hacked to do so... the sparc lab at school didn't run xdm
for the longest time exactly for this reason... they managed to hack
xdm to do it, though. (They wanted to be able to check wtmp to see if
you were still logged into a machine.. if you weren't, half an hour
after you logged out it would kill any jobs you were running.  Silly
lab policy of not running any background jobs, no matter how nice'ed
they were.)
