Yes there is fix for this if I think I know what the problem is
Do you have sound blaster and were you using sound apps under X ??
there is bug with s3trio64 and sound blaster
to fix it get Xfree 3.2
(which has some better support for trio 64 anyway)
I noticed this when I tried to play xquake on campus(have s3 trio 64 and
sound blaster 16's) which woudl hard lock the computer
getting xfree 3.12-beta-g (which is no longer available USE XFREE 3.2)
solved this problem
ALSO CHECK YOU SYSTEM DATE
I USED TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH 1.2.13 KERNELS CHANGING MY COMPUTER DATE TO 2096
THIS CONFUSED NETSCAPE SINCE AS A RESULT THE CACHED WWW PAGES WOUDL BE
NEWER THAN THE ACTUAL PAGE BECUASE ON THE DATE BEING WRONG
THIS CAUSE NETSCAPE TO HARD LOCK THE COMPUTER
