I just got the official 4.0 CD and I have a Western Digital AC32100H
hard drive that I am trying to install 4.0 on. My problem is that the
redhat fdisk will only allow 1023 cylinders and the drive has 4092. It
says:
...
Disk /tmp/hda: 64 heads, 63 sectors, 1023 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 4032 * 512 bytes
...
My BIOS sees the sectors beyond the 1023 boundary. I have tried to set
the drive up with 4 partitions two of 250 MB, one of 500 and the
remainder of the drive in the last partition. The partitions written
beyond the 1023 will show when you print the table, but will fail any
attempt to make a new file system.
I understand that you can not boot above 1024, but you can't even make a
filesystem? This could not be so in Unix.
This machine is my primary nameserver and it hurts for it to be down.
