Hi again. I appreciate all the help I have received so far on my problem,
but I worded it incorrectly, in such a way to gather the wrong responces.
Basically, after setting up redhat 4.0 i386, and making some small changes
(adding to /etc/hosts, /etc/resolv.conf...) I can no longer even configure
the loopback device.
I made a few typo's so I have corrected it, and resubmit my real problem

After configuring the interface, I simply follow adding a route, like the
initscripts do:
# route add -net 127.0.0.0 netmask 255.0.0.0
This leads to the following output:

> > route {-V|--version} Display command version and exit.

I don't know what to do next. Its almost like its a bug, because the
netcfg script doesn't even let you touch the loopback device, yet upon
rebooting, I no longer have any routes at all! This is the contents of my
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-lo:
DEVICE=lo
IPADDR=127.0.0.1
NETMASK=255.0.0.0
NETWORK=127.0.0.0
BROADCAST=127.255.255.255
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTP=no
What other files can I provide to further diagnose this problem? I have
already reinstalled once, to alleviate this problem, and would be happy to
reinstall again, but I would like to know what happened...
