Try the info page for diff. Either read it in Emacs or in info.

I would advise you to use Emacs to do diff (Look into the
'Compare' submenu of the `Tools'menu). The problem is that the Emacs
in Colgate is not the most recent, and Patch and (if I remember
correctly) Ediff just does not work. If you need a patch let me know.

If you have the Emacs from Picasso, then Ediff and Patch work fine.
