I do not know of an easy way to do this.  Actually it's a problem
I've seen for a long time.  Where I work, they tried to write a
gateway for sendmail/ms-mail.  It worked, kinda.  It would send text,
but even uuencoded files would get trashed, some extra control chars
added. 

Thats one way.  Another way, what we use now, is an MS-EXCHANGE server.
This runs on NT, and can route mail between ms-mail and SMTP mail.
Even binary attatchments stay intact now.  Much better.
