I have a 486 m-board based on the UMC 8886 chipset. The built-in IDE
controller came with "UMC 8673" drivers (on a separate disk). I noticed
that the 2.0.xx kernels can be compiled with UMC 8672 IDE access, and in
other OS (OS/2, e.g.) using the specific UMC driver improves performance.
So my question is:
does anyone know if the UMC 8672 feature can be used with this chipset?
What could happen if the board actually implement a different chip?
TIA,
