Hi all,
I've tried so many things to get RedHat 4.0 Colgate installed, I'm just
about at the end of my rope.
If someone would take a look at the errors and etc and how my install goes,
They might see the problem right off. I'm just so confused now I'm lost.
Anyhelp will be very very much appreciated.
I list my hardware first and a step by step install. This is all done by
hand and no screen shots/snaps etc, So as much as I tried not to make typos,
they may still be some.

My problem is with installing RedHat 4.0 (Intel) CD, on my 486-dx4-100.
My System -- Mother board - 486-PVT - AWARD Modular BIOS v4.50G
twaNVersion 5.163 (PVT64)
-- Just added 32meg 60ns Ram
-- 486-dx4-100 Intel CPU
-- Monitor - CTX 14" CVP-5468-NI and trident 8900C vid-card
with 1024 of mem.
-- 32 meg - 60ns Ram 2 - 16 meg 72 pin sims (Non EDO)
-- maxtor 1.26 gig - Hard drive (IDE)
-- Controller - Yosemite S1346 VESA Local Bus .. Enhanced IDE &
Fast
I/O Controller ( in 32 bit slot )
-- CD-ROM Drive -- Sony - CDU31A-Internal, using it's own
Controller
the - SMS31083
-- Sound Card - Soundblaster pro 8 bit
-- 3 button mouse - Mouse systems
I'll explain what happens in step by step form, see below. Please excuse typos,
as this is all typed in by hand and not screen shots/snaps.
First of all ... I am not connected in any way to a Network.
I was using RedHat 2.1 with kern 1.2.13. -- Whiched worked fine.
Used Rawrite and wrote the BOOT.IMG to floppy disk. Shut down computer and
rebooted.

packages to install ... tried various ... last time picked - All
message screen/menu ... complete log of your installation will be in
tmp/install.log
making ext2 filesystem on /dev/hda3
"waiting awhile"
"Trouble!" .... 2 menu screens popup almost the same time.
Error menu overtop of base install menu. The back ground is full of white text
and code etc.
Error menu screen has black lines from the background through it here and there.
I see enough to get the error message ... says ... error unpacking archive no
such file or directory [OK]
"I'm Going to ... (Alt - F2) (Alt - F3) (Alt - F4) and (Alt - F5) see below."
Note .. CDROM is still spinning!

Is it hopeless?!
I would very vey much apperciate any help with this problem. I didn't
think it would be this hard. I seen some new boot images on RedHat, and
tried the other boot.img, although I was pretty sure there wasn't anything
different in it to help me, But I was ready to try anything. I think those
imgs are for SCSI problems. (*Shrugs*) I have searched the archives, but
found nothing like this.
Is there a new errata coming out soon? .. I've read all I can find and been
checking cmos and even went to http://www.award.com and asked the correct CMOS
settings. Thinking the New 60ns Ram (Old - 8 meg 70ns) ... might be playing
a part?! ... they said just use normal settings.
Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance ... Mark F.
