The daily does of fixes for Red Hat 4.0 is now available:
1) All Linux kernels have a major bug which allows ping'ing
them with bad frames to crash the system. This is fixed
in the following kernels.
a) Intel - kernel-2.0.18-6.i386.rpm
If you are running a system based on the kernel that
was originally installed by Red Hat 4.0, you can simply
install this package, run /sbin/lilo, and reboot. Otherwise,
you must download kernel-source.20.18-6.i386.rpm, upgrade
to it, and rebuild your kernel.
b) Alpha - kernel-source-2.0.18-6.axp.rpm
Upgrade to this package and build a kernel.
c) SPARC - kernel-sparc-2.0.22-2.sparc.rpm
kernel-modules-2.0.22-2.sparc.rpm
Upgrade to this package and reboot your system. As this
is a new version of the kernel, new modules are also
necessary. Source and header packages for this version of
the kernel are also available in the SPARC updates
directory.
2) (SPARC only) IPX problems are fixed with the 2.0.22 kernel
mentions in 1c.
3) taper didn't include bg_backup or bg_restore -- fixed in
taper-6.7.4-2, available for all architectures.
4) wall, wall man page, and inittab man page missing -- fixed
in SysVinit-2.64-3, available for all architectures.
5) tar seg faulted when trying to create multivolume archives
-- fixed in tar-6.7.4-9, available for all architectures.
As always, these fixes should make it to the errata shortly. Let us know
if any of these problems continue, and enjoy!
Erik
