Hi,
First of all I don't read the rpm-list so may be my mail is outdate.

I upgraded my linux to redhat 4.0 a few weeks ago, after that I wanna
upgrade everything in the contrib and Incoming directory. BUT I can't
do that with a few package e.g.
/pub/redhat/contrib/RPMS/slang-0.99.33-2.i386.rpm
(Colgate include slang-0.99.33-1.i386.rpm), cause when I wanna upgrade
(on X with glint) the lower rectangle (which show the total percentage
of the install/upgrade) filled up in a second, but the upper (which
show the per-package percentage) is NOT filled up and upgrade return
without upgrade (same thing happend with some other package what I wanna
install [not update]) :-((. Hmmm I thing try to intall, cause if it will
successful than I will uninstall the old and than install the new.
And wohh it is successful. Ok I thought now uninstall the old slang,
but rpm don't allow that because of dependecies, what's worse the newly
installed slang overwrite the old one so I can't uninstall it ??

So in Colgate announcement one can read dependenies a dozen of time,
hmm it would be very nice but not this way.

1. I'm the root, this mean I'm the God on the machine and I can do
everything, so if I wanna uninstall something than I can't be
forbiden to do it (ok. it would be useful to pop up a few confirm
window on X or question on terminal). If it break dependecies than
   I hold the responsibility.
2. If I install/upgrade a package, it would be nice to check EVERY
installed package to prevent from overwriting file which belong to
an already installed package (in case of upgrade check after uninstall).
[this is the situation with upgrade from Picasso to Colgate, in this
case libc-header...rpm remain in the system, because no one uninstall
it and libc-devel...rpm contain the same header files so when someone
ask : rpm -qf /usr/include/<someheader>.h the reult is
   libc-header...
   libc-devel...
BUT if you uninstall libc-header (ops it can be libc-include I don't
remember well, but this is unimportant) than you lose the header under
/usr/include/ although libc-devel installed and would have to be contain
   this headers.]
3. It would be nice if rpm can find the already installed package even if
it is put into another group (like ghostscript-4) by the name (it can
cause the same error then the above (2).

4a.It is not really rpm think, but would be nice if in glint I can see
the ungrouped version of packages (I mean something like: rpm -qa | sort)
It can be very useful sometime.
4b.It would be also nice to add more detail query facilites in glint
(rpm -qf , ... or more) and some searching in different field like
   description...

btw. Did I mention I really like this rpm and glint!!! :-)))))
