errata sheet installation questions ?????

I have just finished installing the errata sheet updates on my system. I
have a question on how I should have done this.
If a errata sheet item says:
"upgrade to package-1.2.3-2.i386.rpm (a more recent update is below)"
Does this mean upgrade to the more recent package now or wait till you get
to the later item and upgrade it then ?
What implications does this have for the other upgrades in between the
first and last occurance of a upgrade of a specific package.
An example of this would be items 2, 33, and 26Oct96. All call for an
upgrade to pam. In which item do you do it. And if you do it in item 2
do you have to redo it in step 33 after you run the script? There is only
one updated package in the updates directory so doing it in several steps
is not a choice. I chose to do this one in step 2 and redo it in step 33
by using --force. Was this right?
Anyway, I think that the errata sheet is good, but should be clearer in
how the items should be done.
