sendmail slow

I just installed RH4.0 and when my system boots, it hangs
when loading sendmail for about 30 seconds or more and then
finally continues on.
I guess this doesn't really matter, but most of my other system
load the sendmail daemon and keep on going.
Any ideas on why it's pausing here?
