From a newbie (for what it's worth), I had the same problem when trying
to rebuild the kernel. It blew up looking for piggy.o. I shutdown, rebooted,
reran make mrproper and then make xconfig using the same .config I had
saved. This time the build ran perfectly. Never did figure out what the
original problem was, but since I got a good build I didn't waste too much
time investigating. So, I'd try the build again to see if you get the same
result. Good luck.
