Miguel,

 Take a look at /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0. This file is like a
.profile for xdm, you probably have a line starting with xconsole which
sets up your console log on the login screen. I added the following;

xsetroot -bitmap /home/dgavin/images/faxlogo.xbm -fg darkblue -bg gray35

This puts a tiled pattern of my employer's logo up as a background.
You could also take a look at XBanner - this program puts images, color
patterns and text on the screen and allows for color register manipulation
that can make your login screen look spectacular! I think that there's a
copy of XBanner on RedHat's ftp site.

Slánte,

Dave
