INN news messages not appearing in spool...

I'm trying to set up a small news spool for myself. I'm using
INN1.4 and Suck 3.3.1(?). When I run the suck program, it acts like it is
bringing in articles, but nothing ever appears in the spool. I've checked
my logs and I'm getting the following errors:
ME cant write comp/os/linux/setup/494 no such file or dir
ME cant fopen /var/lib/news/history Permission Denied
The first error I believe has to do with improperly set up
directories. I dont know exactly where this dir should be. I've tried
putting it under /var/spool/news/in.coming/ but it doesnt work there either.
The second error I dont have a clue about. I ran the makehistory
program, and the permissions on the history file (0 bytes??) are set to
news. I've also tried copying the history.n.pag and history.n.dir file to
this file, and nothing seems to work...
