Because you will be rightly castrated and immolated by several
thousand NANOG admins. Others will stand and cheer, including me.
All it takes is ONE little router leak, one minor oops; and you make
an ungodly mess for the entire IP world. And what do you gain?
Nothing.
Any new installations will likely need and use translation. (They'll
get an address block from their provider, and when [not 'if'] they
change providers, they can change one firewall or 1000 boxes. Which
is easier....?)
Reserved addresses are also a security feature. Since intruders
can't attack using the direct addresses; they have to break into the
firewall. Any security guru will tell you it's easier to protect
one firewall YOU run vice 1000 boxes the division's LoseDOS 0.95
MIS staff run.
